Who or what starts your day? What’s the first thing you find yourself doing? Many of us are sabotaging ourselves each morning unconsciously, by the simple action of reaching for our phone/device. In those first precious moments, what we feed into our brain, can and does impact either for better or worse, how the rest of our day unfolds.
Checking your phone within the first 60 minutes of waking, is generally considered a bad habit. This is not new information. The majority of us instinctively know this. And yet, how many of us reading this, still do exactly that?
Let me share some results of this bad habit recent studies have revealed; *Increased stress levels, *Scattered focus, *Dopamine drain, *Anxiety, *Mental fatigue, and *Loss of Control (meaning ‘the online environment controls your mood, not you’) just to name a few. Wow! If that’s not enough motivation to make some changes, I don’t know what is.
Are you ready to transform your routine? Here are some simple ideas for better morning habits: *wait at least 1 hour before checking your phone, *use a physical alarm and keep your phone in another room, *exercise first thing for benefits to your mind and body, *journalling, *read a physical book (nothing like it), *get outside for fresh air, *enjoy early morning sunshine to promote better sleep quality, and *take the time to have a healthy, nutritious breakfast.
Like any habit, it takes time to develop alternative practices. During the transition period, be kind to yourself. Each day your brain is rewiring and creating new neural pathways, reinforcing the new choices and weakening the old.
The final ultimate goal, “You will be the one starting your day.” Your day, Your choices…
