Remember the old saying “Stop and smell the roses”? In these crazy times, I can’t help wondering, if sometimes we don’t even see the roses, let alone smell them.
Recently I attended a function, where the speaker shared numerous stories from their childhood. While reminiscing, he took his audience on a journey back in time; unfolding for those listening, the wonders and nuances of everyday life on the family’s dairy farm. It was quite the captivating experience. Made all the more so, as each remembrance reached ever deeper. His memories, became ours; as the threads of every detail were intrinsically knitted together….
A dear friend of mine is wonderful at noticing detail. She is a true joy to be around. Often you’ll find her in her garden, simply watching the bees going about their business. Noticing the little things. Those things that can bring such joy; if we would simply stop and see.
Then a thought came to me; challenging me. “What am I missing?”
Am I just charging blindly through my days? Focused on getting the next task done? Checking off my TO DO list? Not noticing the many wonders that surround me?
If I’m completely honest, yes. Much of the time…
Okay.. But, what to do? Now, there is another choice to consider. Keep going on as before; which is always an option. Or choose to change..
Choose to slowdown. Choose to consciously open my eyes to the world that surrounds me. Choose to become curious. To see the little things.
Choose to start noticing, ‘What I am missing’.
